Your body on fish oil

You’ve probably heard that you need more omega-3s, but you may not realize just how important they are. They help your body maintain normal heart function as well as normal brain function and vision. If you are young and growing or starting to feel your age, Puori Liquid O3 (formerly PurePharma Liquid O3) can help support a healthy body.

Quality sourced

Puori Liquid O3 is sourced exclusively from wild anchovies, responsibly caught in the south Pacific Ocean. Since these fish are low on the food chain they don’t accumulate toxins and heavy metals like larger fish such as cod, salmon and tuna. We’re not one to brag but we are consistently awarded 5/5 stars from IFOS for freshness, stability and purity.

No fish taste

O3 Liquid contains omega-3 fatty acids blended with medium chain triglyceride (MCT) oil and potent antioxidants from rosemary to keep the oil stable and fresh. It has a fresh taste of citrus. How should you take it? Sip it off a spoon, mix with a smoothie or even pour it over a salad as a dressing.

The Puori difference

Pure origins are not always easy to come by — it’s faster and cheaper to leave fish oil in ethyl ester form after it has been purified. We take the extra time to get it back to natural triglycerides so that your body can use the omega-3s faster and without side effects like the dreaded fish burps.

FAQ

Fish oil is oil derived from fatty fish such as anchovy, sardines, mackerel, trout, and salmon. Fish oil is a good source of two specific long chain polyunsaturated fatty acids (omega-3) known as EPA (Eicosapentaenoic acid) and DHA (Docosahexaenoic acid). These two omega-3 fatty acids provide a wide range of health benefits.

Puori O3 Liquid (formerly PurePharma O3 Liquid) contains fish oil derived only from the small fish anchovies and sardines. These fish are the fatty fish lowest in the food chain, meaning low accumulation of toxins. The oil is purified and concentrated to provide a high dose of EPA and DHA and no toxins

The general recommendation is to aim for around 2-4 grams of omega-3 fatty acids preferably in the form of EPA and DHA per day. Ideally you would get this from a natural source like wild caught fish, but if you have limited access to these, you can use supplements to get the optimal dose. If you are a competing athlete, a higher daily dose may be recommended to prevent inflammation, enhance recovery, improve endurance performance. Talk to your doctor if you think you may need more.

MCT = medium chain triglycerides (6-12 carbon atoms in the fatty acid chain). When ingested these fats are not treated the same way as other fats, that is first picked apart and travel around the body with the blood. MCTs are transported directly to the liver for oxidation, and the energy is hence readily available. This is why they provide energy quickly from the time of ingestion. MCT oil is one of the most stable oils around, which means that it very rarely oxidizes.

Keep your fish oil in the fridge. Omega-3s react to light, heat and oxygen and can turn rancid. Rancid fish oil, based on the smell and taste should be discarded immediately.

If you find yourself asking whether you should take the liquid or capsule O3, be assured that you can take either. The health benefits are the same — it’s simply which method of delivery you prefer. Puori O3 liquid fish oil is pure and stable just like the Puori (formerly PurePharma) O3 capsules. The liquid fish oil can be used in a variety of ways; you can sip it from a spoon or blend it in your smoothie or food. It is great for those who struggle to swallow pills and it is the perfect choice for children from three years. The capsules are a convenient and hassle-free way of quickly getting the beneficial fish oil, and the capsules are easy to bring with you on the go. The O3 liquid contains 150 ml, which corresponds to 30 servings whereas the O3 contain 120 capsules, which corresponds to 40 servings. What to choose depends entirely on your preference.

The number one thing to look for is a clean and fresh fish oil. Avoid fish oils that have a distinct fishy smell, that indicates the oil has oxidized.

Secondly, look at how much EPA and DHA each serving provides – this is far more important than the “total fish oil” amount. The fish oil needs to be highly concentrated to get the best effects and means a lower dose is necessary each day to get the same results. Choose fish oils free of soy (including lecithin), dairy, wheat, rice or sweeteners.

Finally, when choosing a liquid fish oil, it is especially important to choose an oil developed to stay stable and fresh. In Puori O3 Liquid, medium chain triglyceride (MCT) oil is added to stabilize the oil and prevent oxidation. This means that the oil stays fresh and have no fish taste or odor.

It’s best to take your fish oil with meals. You can choose whether to take your daily dose all at once or divided throughout the day.

Triglyceride (TG) is the natural form of fats found in most foods where 3 fatty acids are bound to a glycerol backbone. When distilling and purifying the omega-3 fatty acids, part of the process is to replace this glycerol backbone with ethanol and ethyl esters (EEs) are formed. In high quality products, the omega 3 fatty acids are transferred back to a glycerol as TGs which is a costly process. Cheaper products leave the omega 3s as EEs. Fish oil in the natural TG form offers numerous advantages when compared to EE’s:

• Higher bioavailability

• Higher omega-3 absorption rates
• Smaller risk of oxidation
• Multiple countries (Australia, Denmark, Canada, Sweden and Norway) have banned the use of EE’s. Be sure that your fish oil is a triglyceride!
